Leipzig
Leipzig ist in Deutschland nicht nur bekannt für seine Universität, sondern auch als Ursprung der klassischen Musik, welche in dieser Stadt immer noch sehr präsent ist. Was wir nicht wussten, ist, dass Leipzig bereits als "Stadt der Helden" bezeichnet wird. Dies liegt sowohl an der hier entstandenen Bewegung von 1989, welche zum Berliner Mauerfall und somit zur Wiedervereinigung Deutschlands beitrug, als auch an den vielen anonymen Helden (anonymous heroes), die hier leben und das tägliche Leben verschönern. ________________________ Leipzig is a city quite well known in Germany for the university, and for being a cradle for classical music, that still remains so present around the city. But what we were not knowing is that Leipzig is already called the “city of the heroes”, because of the movement that was initiated here in 1989 and which helped to tear down the Berlin wall and to the reunification of Germany, but also because of the big amount of anonymous heroes that are living here, making everyday life more kind.

Jacqueline Boom-Boom ist eine Künstlerin mit vielen Talenten: sie malt, sie schreibt, sie komponiert, sie hat eine Radiosendung... Ursprünglich kommt sie aus Brasilien und lebte bereits in verschiedenen Städten im Ausland bevor sie nach Leipzig zog und entdeckte, dass die Stadt der Ort ist, wo sie hingehört, wo sie als Person wachsen konnte und viel Liebe zurückgeben kann. Und das hat sie reichlich getan. Beruflich, in der Clubbing-Szene der Stadt ist sie eine bekannte Künstlerin geworden, als Sängerin und Komponistin; aber auch persönlich, um eine ständig positive Botschaft zu vermitteln und eine Umgebung voller Liebe und guter Energie zu schaffen. Die Botschaft in ihrer Musik und Kunst ist immer voller Freude und für so viele Menschen ermächtigend und Kraft spendend. "Du kannst alles schaffen"
Lena arbeitet als Bäckerin in der Milchbar Pinguin. Die Milchbar Pinguin ist eine Institution in der Stadt Leipzig und bekannt für Eis und Snacks, seit sie 1964, also vor fast 60 Jahren auf dem Marktplatz eröffnet wurde. Lena war als bereits als Kind regelmäßig mit ihrer Oma dort, um ihr Lieblingsessen zu essen: die Eis-Spaguettis. Ihre Oma war auch diejenige, die ihr das Backen beigebracht und diese Leidenschaft von Anfang an auf Lena übertragen hat. Vor allem aber war und ist Lenas Oma diejenige, die immer zu ihr sagte: „Du kannst alles“, das ist auch der Satz, der der Zeichnung beiliegt. Jetzt ist Lena 26 und arbeitet inzwischen als Verantwortliche in der Bäckerei der Milchbar. Sie bereitet jeden Tag viel Gebäck und Kuchen vor und hat einen veganen Weg in der Bäckerei initiiert, der sie besonders stolz macht. Und unter all den Kuchen hat sie einen Favoriten. Dieser ist hier auf dem Bild zu sehen und wird noch heute mit Omas Rezept zubereitet. ________________________ Lena works as baker at the Milchbar Pinguin. The Milchbar Pinguin is an institution in the city of Leipzig for ice creams and pastries, working since 1964 in the Marktplatz ( the market square). Lena used to go there regularly with her Oma ( her grandma) when she was a child, to eat her favourite: the ice cream spaguettis. Her Oma was too the one that taught her how to bake, and put this passion on Lena since early days. But more importantly, Lena's Oma was and is the one always saying to her: “You can do anything”, which is the sentence that comes with the drawing. Now, Lena is 26, and she already works as responsible of the bakery in the Milchbar. She cooks a lot of pastries and cakes everyday, and she has initiated a vegan path in the bakery, that makes her specially proud. And among all the cakes, she has a favourite, the one that appears in the picture: The one with her Oma's recipe.
Tante E
“Ich will dort kämpfen, wo das Leben ist”.
Tante E ist der Name, wie Gabi Edler von allen genannt wird. Sie hat auch andere Namen: Engel von Leipzig, Mama und viele weitere und sie alle zeugen von der Liebe, die die Leipziger ihr entgegenbringen wollen. Das liegt daran, dass Tante E ununterbrochen für Obdachlose, insbesondere Kinder, gearbeitet hat. Tante E. arbeitete früher als Straßenbahnfahrerin in der Stadt. Es war ihr aber schon immer klar, dass sie ihr Leben der Hilfe aller Menschen in Not widmen wollte. Wie sie immer sagt: „Ich muss einfach helfen“. Seit sie in den Ruhestand gegangen ist, hat sie so vielen Menschen wie möglich Zuflucht geboten, Essen für sie gesammelt, ihnen aber auch einen Platz gegeben, an dem sie einfach sitzen, sprechen und sich willkommen fühlen können. Der zur Zeichnung gehörende Satz stammt von Clara Zetkin, deutsche politikerin ________________________ Tante E (Auntie E) is the name how Gabi Edler is usually called. She has other names too: the angel of Leipzig, mommy... and all of them are part of the love that the Leipzig citizens want to show to her. That is because Tante E has been working non-stop taking care of homeless persons, specially children. Tante E used to work as a tram-driver in the city, but she had always very clear she wanted to dedicate her life to help everybody that is in need. As she usually says: “ I must simply help”. Since she retired, she has been just giving shelter to so many people as she can, collecting food for them, but also giving them a place to just sit, speak, and feeling welcomed. The sentence with the drawing is from Clara Zetkin, famous politician and feminist who studied in the city, and is translated as “ I will fight there where the life is”

"Musica est exercitium arithmeticae occultum nescientis se numerare animi"
Jede*r sagt, wenn man einmal in Leipzig ist, hört man überall Musik - und das stimmt auch. Man spürt, wie musikalisch diese Stadt ist, in der unter anderen Johann Sebastian Bach, Clara und Robert Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy und Richard Wagner einen Großteil ihrer Jahre mit dem Komponieren erbrachten. Im Gewandhaus, der Oper, Thomaskirche und vielen weiteren Orten kann verschiedensten Orchestern und Chören gelauscht werden. Die Musikschulen und Hochschulen begrüßen jedes Jahr eine große Anzahl von Studierenden, die hier lernen, spielen und proben. Bei einem Besuch der Leipziger Innenstadt wundert es auch nicht weiter, wenn man einen jungen Mann mit weißem T-Shirt und Fliege sieht, der stundenlang in der Einkaufsstraße die große Marimba spielt. Aber wir sind uns doch alle einig, dass es unseren Alltag schöner und uns glücklicher macht, wenn wir ihn sehen. Und das ist ein wahres Geschenk. Der zur Zeichnung gehörende Satz stammt von dem Mathematiker und Philosophen Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, einem der bekanntesten Bürger Leipzigs, welcher wie folgt zitiert wird: "Musik ist die versteckte arithmetische Tätigkeit der Seele, die sich nicht dessen bewusst ist, dass sie rechnet." _______________________ Everybody uses to say that once you are in Leipzig you can hear music everywhere, and that is quite true. You can feel how musical is this city where Bach, The Schummans ( Clara and Robert), Mendelsohn or Wagner, among others, spent a lof of their years composing; you can go also to the great Gewandhaus ( the house of the orchestra), or to some of the magnificent churches to listen to the choirs; and the music schools in the city embrace every year a big ammount of students, learning there and playing and rehearsing all around. Because of that, in Leipzig city centre they are not surprised if they see a very young guy with white t-shirt and bow tie playing for hours the big marimba in the streets. But they all agree in how to see him makes their daily routines happier. And that is a true gift. The sentence coming with the drawing is from the mathematician and philosopher Gottfried Leibniz, one of Leipzig most well known citizens, and can be translated as: “"Music is a secret exercise in arithmetic of the soul, unaware of its act of counting”.

“ Was träumet Ihr auf Eurer Dichterhöhe?”
Er ist wirklich ein anonymer Held. Und Er möchte lieber anonym zu bleiben. Er ist in Leipzig geboren und aufgewachsen. Er ist so bescheiden, dass es für uns ziemlich schwierig war, etwas über seine Vergangenheit als Profisportler zu erfahren, aber als wir ein wenig nachforschten, entdeckten wir mehr über seinen Weg, der eine Bronzemedaille bei den Europameisterschaften und viele weitere Platzierungen im Hochsprung, Zehnkampf und Stabhochsprung beinhaltet. Aber besonders waren wir überwältigt von seiner Freundlichkeit, Professionalität und Ehrlichkeit. Der zur Zeichnung gehörige Satz kann übersetzt werden mit: „Was träumst du in deinen poetischen Höhen?“ und gehört zu dem berühmten Buch „Faustus“, zu welchem Goethe insbesondere in Leipzig inspiriert wurde. _______________________ He is really an anonymous hero, and prefers to remain anonymous. He was born and raised in Leipzig. He is so humble than for us was quite difficult to know about his past as professional athlete, but when we investigated a little we discovered a path that includes a bronze medal in the europeans, and a lot of championships in high jump, decathlon, and pole vault. But specially we were overwhelmed by his kindness, professionality and honesty. The sentence that goes with the drawing can be translated as: “ What are you dreaming in your poetic heights?”, and belongs to the famous book “Faustus” from Goethe, written in the city.
